About Marcus

Hello Residents of Saguache County. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and my campaign. I was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in the state of Maryland until I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.

Work History

After an honorable medical discharge from Camp Lejeune NC, my service was ended in 1996. I then moved to Boulder CO. At that time, I began a successful career as a general contractor and became nationally certified with a Class B residential and commercial accreditation. I participated in many large construction contracts with multimillion dollar budgets, and I have experience managing payrolls, personnel and public inputs. I also have worked with many Colorado county's building and zoning departments and officials, and I have the ability to read fine print and engineered documents and maps.

In 2019 I decided to start building my house in the Baca Grande in Crestone, Colorado and to change my focus to raising my children and enjoying the freedom and natural beauty of this valley we all love. Some of the first projects I worked on as a general contractor were straw bale homes in Carbondale, Colorado. I have a strong interest in alternative building practices and sustainable living. I care deeply for the preservation and protection of our valley and its resources.

Concerns for the Residents of our County

The last four years have brought many changes and caused real concerns for the residents of our county. As your commissioner, I will be focused on protecting and defending our constitutional rights and following the principles and guidelines of the law of the land. My oath to the Constitution will never be violated by an official act I take as your commissioner. I will not sign anything I have not read or do not thoroughly understand. I will protect against creating hardships for residents through increased regulations and codes. I will support small businesses and look for ways to make starting and maintaining private businesses easier for members of our community.

I believe we need more transparency and public input in any upcoming changes coming from our county. I will remain accessible, be responsive, and respectful to the people I serve. The cost of living has increased significantly over the last four years and inflation is affecting everyone. I will support families, veterans, and seniors, and consider all ideas to better serve low-income folks in these tough times.

Balance at the BOCC

I hope to bring much needed balance to the Saguache County Board of Commissioners, and a common-sense approach to tough issues we all face. I will support our law enforcement and emergency services.

Parental Rights

I believe parental rights are becoming an important topic to rebuild trust in our schools. I will look for ways to improve performance and results through cooperation of the school board and concerned parents.

Emergency Resolution Document

I am not a politician. I became politically active after the passing of an emergency resolution in September of 2021 by the Saguache County Board of Commissioners. I was a major contributor to organizing a public protest to this document that clearly violated our constitutional rights, which resulted in the rescinding of the resolution. I also participated in election integrity investigations in our county and have genuine concerns about our current systems.

I hope to restore trust with my contributions and actions as commissioner of District 1, while considering the county as a whole. I'm asking for your vote to allow me to represent you as Commissioner.
